Two threatening gully erosion sites are on the verge of destroying some official residential buildings of some senior staff of the University of Benin, Uniben, Ugbowo Campus as well as cutting off the institution from five neighbouring communities.

Some students and staff of the institution appealed to the Federal Government to urgently come to the rescue of the institution by reclaiming the gully sites.

The University of Benin, Ugbowo Campus is in the middle of two ravaging gully erosion, the first one is at the boundary between the institution and Ekosodin community. The gully is fast encroaching the official residential buildings of senior staff of the school, as well as the senior staff club, and guest house.

The second gully site is at the emergency exit gate of the institution where new buildings are being constructed for the staff of Uniben. The only road leading to the new buildings and linking the school with five communities; Utteh, Efosa, Iguosagie communities among others is on the verge of caving into the gully.

This development is already giving students, staff of the University of Benin and members of the communities sleepless nights. They, therefore, appealed to the Nigerian government to urgently come to the aid of the institution by carrying out reclamation work at the gully sites.

If nothing is done urgently by relevant government agencies to reclaim the gully erosion sites at the University of Benin, the road will collapse completely and several buildings will also be submerged.
