Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has called on members of the House of Representatives to expedite action regarding the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill PIB as it will correct some of the injustices faced by oil-producing states.

Governor Diri made the call on Tuesday when members of the House Committee on Oil Spill Investigation, Cleanup, and Remediation in the Oil Producing States visited him in Government House, Yenagoa.

Oil spills in communities in states of the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria have become part of the everyday life of the people.

The recent occurrence was the spill in the Otuokpoti Community in the Ogbia Council Area of Bayelsa state.

This informed the visit of the Senate Adhoc Committee on Oil Spill, Cleanups, and Remediation in oil-producing states to Yenagoa in view of the level of degradation caused by oil spills.

Receiving the team in Government House, Governor Diri lamented the negative impacts on the communities of the region.

As the result of a Joint Investigation Visit, the level of the cleanup in the last five years will form part of the recommendations of the Adhoc Committee.
