Mesfin alongside Asmelash Woldeselassie, the former chief whip, and Abay Tsehaye another former minister of Federal Affairs lost their lives in a battle yesterday.

The Ethiopian government began a crackdown in the Tigray region after some military personnel were attacked within the region and claimed they were attacked by TPLF forces. The discord resulted in the displacement of several thousand – 55,500 Tigrayans and the loss of lives of many.

The Tigray forces who refused to surrender have been ambushed by the Ethiopian federal forces, the TPLF leaders were captured a few days away, and the federal forces have continued to manhunt the rest of Tigrayans closely allied with the TPLF.
