Matchday two of the 2020/21 English Premier League season has been thrilling so far with high scoring games and vital victories. However, some big names suffered inevitable and shock defeats as well.
Everton kicked off the round of games on Saturday with an impressive 5-2 win at home against West Brom. Carlo Ancelloti’s men were extremely impressive as the new signings continued to make the difference for the Toffees.

After a poor start to the season, Jose Mourinho’s Spurs side responded finely against Southampton. Despite going behind early in the game, 4 goals from Heung-Ming Son and a goal from Harry earned spurs a 5-2 win away at the Saint Mary’s Stadium.
Reigning Premier League Champions Liverpool were 2-0 winners against rivals Chelsea. Two goals in 4 minutes from Sadio Mane were good enough to defeat 10 men Chelsea. Andreas Christensen received a red card just before halftime leaving his teammates helpless.
Other results from the weekend fixtures saw Arsenal score a late goal at home to defeat West Ham. Leeds were involved in another 7 goal thriller but were the winners in this encounter. They won 4-3 at home to fellow promoted side Fulham who suffered a second straight loss and find themselves in the bottom 3.
Manchester United suffered a shock defeat at home to Crystal Palace. Ole Gunnar Soljskaer’s men put in a lacklustre performance and were punished for it. Two goals from Wilfried Zaha and a goal from Andros Townsend helped the eagles to their second win of the season.
Newcastle lost their first game of the season at home to Brighton & Hove Albion. The match ended 3-0 in favour of Graham Potter’s men who put in a great performance. Leicester finished off the weekend games with a 4-2 win at home to Burnley.
Other notable attractions from the weekend games were the debuts of Thiago Alcantara and Donny van de Beek. Thiago came in as a half time substitute and was able to control the game. He made more passes than every other Chelsea player for the full game as he completed 75 passes.
Donny van de Beek also came off the bench for Manchester United and scored their consolation goal in their defeat to Crystal Palace.
Matchday two continues today with Monday Night Football. Aston Villa and Sheffield go head to head while Wolverhampton Wanderers host Manchester City.
