Kidnappings have become a threat to motorists and road users along the Benin/Auchi road in Edo State.

The kidnappings are often carried out by ambushing innocent people plying the route, kidnapping them with death threats, and made to pay ransoms before regaining their freedom.

The most recent case is the one that occurred Tuesday this week where students of the Nigerian Navy School of Engineering, Sapele, Delta State were abducted while returning from Kaduna to their base in Delta State.

The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Kontongs Bello, confirmed the incident saying 13 of the abductees have been rescued while five are were yet to be released.

Although efforts were being made by the Edo State government to remedy the situation, some concerned women in the state are calling on the Federal Government and the security agencies to expedite action in curtailing the menace which has made it impossible for women to take their produce to the markets.

It will be recalled that a graduate of Ambrose Alli University last month lost her life to the activities of kidnappers along the Benin/Auchi road on her way to collect her call-up letter for the National Youth Service Corps programme.
