Team Edo has defeated its Lagos counterpart, as a fight erupted at the end of the game over alleged match officials’ poor decision.

Protests and fight greeted the final whistle of the final female football match between the girls from Edo State and their counterparts from Lagos State over alleged poor decisions taken by the match officials to have added one-minute extra time which team Lagos felt was unfair, despite the plethora of stoppages of the game by the referee to attend to injured players.

The female football final match between Edo and Lagos started on a bright note as both teams missed several chances to take the lead, but the Edo team later took advantage of a free-kick to score the only goal of the match in the first half.

When it was time to add additional minutes after the usual 90 minutes of play, the match official indicated one minute of extra time, this decision got the players and supporters of the Lagos team infuriated.

They said it was unfair for the officials to add only one minute despite the fact that the referee stopped the game several times to attend to injured players.

At the blow of the final whistle, the players from Lagos and their supporters rounded up the referee which later degenerated into a fight that was immediately put under control.

Elsewhere, in the final match of the male handball played at the University of Benin Sports Complex, the Kano State male handball team clinched the medal of the event after defeating the Lagos team 24-19.
