Buckingham Palace has announced the sad passing of Prince Phillip, Queen Elizabeth’s husband and the Duke of Edinburgh. The Prince was recently sick and was in and out of the hospital but passed away shortly after a brief illness.
The Palace said in a statement: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”
World leaders have taken turns to commiserate with the British Monarchy over the passing of the Prince. He passed away at a ripe age of 99 after retiring from royal duties at 96.
He was the longest serving consort of a reigning British Monarch and the oldest Royal family member.
