DRC elections: Polls delayed by 10 days due to ballot shortage

Congo’s electoral commission announced on Thursday that it would delay presidential elections until December 30, ten days after the set date of December 23, due to delays deploying voting materials to polling sites.

The National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) President Corneille Nangaa said a fire at a CENI warehouse last week destroyed millions of ballot papers for Kinshasa poll stations.

Nangaa stated that the ballot papers they had ordered would not arrive in time for them to be distributed in Kinshasa, which represents 10 percent of the electorate. This would therefore result in there being two separate election dates.
