DISPLACED IRIGWE PEOPLE APPEAL FOR ASSISTANCE

The Irigwe people of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, who have recently come under series of attacks by Fulani herdsmen, want the government to do all within its powers to ensure that more security is provided so they can go back to their houses and farmlands.

They made this known when the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN visit the community to distribute some relief materials. The Irigwe people who are yet to come to terms with the killings and destruction of their farmlands and property are, however, resolute to pick up what is left and are calling on the government to help ensure that peace is fully restored to the area.

They equally need assistance to rebuild their houses which were destroyed in the attacks. The Chairman of the CAN called on the displaced people to create room for forgiveness, adding that no meaningful development can take place in the midst of crises.

With series of meetings ongoing between the plateau state government and community leaders from both sides, it is hoped that peace will soon return to affected areas.
