Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the collapse of the SPAR Superstore billboard in Calabar saying there was no casualty in the incident.
Police Public Relations Officer in the State, DSP Irene Ugbo, said the Command will investigate the cause of the incident that left some vehicles damaged.
Tragedy was averted on Thursday evening when a mega billboard belonging to SPAR Shopping Mall fell and damaged 12 vehicles belonging to customers.
The Mall’s Manager, Kemi Daniel, explained that the collapse came with a terrifying noise that made them think it was something else.
She, however, assured the customers that the company will repair their vehicles for them.
Hundreds of customers were seen scampering for safety due to the loud noise of the collapsed billboard.
An eyewitness who prefers anonymity said, “The signboard placed on top of the roof of the mall fell on the vehicles, blocking the exit door. “
When contacted, the Director-General of the Cross River State Signage Agency, Effiom Effiwat, said the agency will investigate the cause of the incident and make its position known.
