Cross River Police Confirms Killing 2 Of Officers In Obubra By IPOB

In less than two weeks after four police officers on duty were killed by unknown gunmen along the Idungdung checkpoint in Calabar Municipality Area Council, police have confirmed the killing of another two in Obubra by suspected Indegenous People of Biafra (IPOB), members.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), Irene Igbo, two rifles were also taken by the criminals while one of the officers was lying critically injured at an undisclosed medical facility.

Ugbo said base on the information gathered, the killers were shouting IPOB slogans when they approached the checkpoint before they open fire on their men.

She said they made attempt to burn down Nko Police station but were repelled by the police operatives on duty.

Unconfirmed reports said that the military checkpoint along the Obubra highway was also attacked by the suspected IPOB members,killing one of the soldiers at the checkpoint .

Some sections of the media had reported that six policemen were gunned down by the criminals, but police authority said only two of their personnel were killed during the attack.

Security situation seems to have taken another dimension in Cross River State with the continuous killings and taking the riffles of police officers on duties.

The PPRO said the Police Commissioner, Sikiru Akande had deployed mobile police officers to comb the affected areas, assuring that investigation is ongoing and will be made public once it’s completed.
