As reactions continue to trail the incident that occurred in the Jibya Local Government Area of Katsina State, the Coalition of Northern Groups has called on the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, to call off their ongoing strike, in the interest of Nigerians.

The Northwest Coordinator of the group, Jamilu Charanchi, said this while reacting to the incident involving a Nigerian Customs Service patrol vehicle where 10 persons were killed and 20 others injured in the Jibya Local Government Area of Katsina State.

According to Charanchi, some victims would have survived if the doctors were at their duty posts.

He called for the immediate suspension of the Border Drill Operation and advised the service to effectively seal the borders from smugglers.

While describing the incident as unfortunate, the Coalition of Northern Groups asked the Association of Resident Doctors to immediately call off their strike as lives are being lost daily, especially in emergency cases.

The Northwest Coordinator is of the view that since the government is not willing to listen to their demands, they should go back to work and save millions of poor Nigerians who are at the mercy of God.

The Coalition among other prayers, are asking for the immediate suspension of the border drill operations across the state, and ensure they seal the border areas to avert future occurrence.

Charanchi also said the group is demanding that immediate financial compensation be paid to the families of the deceased.

They also threatened and warned that if immediate actions are not taken, mass mobilization of the people will be organized in protest against the incident.

Their open letter was copied to the Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Masari, Chief Justice of Nigeria, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, National Security Adviser, Director General of the State Security Services, Inspector General of Police, and the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, among others.
