A locally developed prototype of a train using the High-Temperature Super Conducting Magnetic Levitation Technology (HTS), has been unveiled today in China’s city of Chengdu.
The 21m train which has a design speed of 620 kmh was tested today on a 165m track line. The project was jointly developed by the Southwest Jiaotong University, the China Railway Group Limited, and the CRRC Corporation Limited.
HTS has been proven to be more suitable for extremely fast transportation for trains with lightning speed as high as 1000 kmh, the launch of this prototype offers a real-world scenario of the proven theories of magnetic levitation says Deng Zigang, the deputy director of the University’s research centre.
