The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has postponed the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, the women AFCON 2020 and the women under-20 qualifiers indefinitely because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
In a statement released by CAF Acting General-Secretary, Abdel Bah, the continental football body also announced that it would send a delegation from the CAF medical committee to Cameroon to assess the preventive measures taken by the local organising committee ahead of the African nations championship, CHAN 2020.
The postponement comes in the wake of the declaration of Coronavirus as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation, WHO, and following strict travel restrictions by some African countries to contain the spread of the virus.
Nigeria Football Federation, NFF boss, Amaju Pinnick, revealed plans to move Super Eagles players via chartered flight from their respective clubs in Europe.
Several football competitions including major European leagues and the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures in Asia and South America have also been suspended due to the spread of the pandemic.
