The Bankers Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria on Thursday collectively accepted the responsibility of providing more funding for the development of the creative sector of the economy.

This was made known at the end of the committee’s meeting held at the CBN headquarters in Abuja.

Addressing pressmen was the Director Banking Supervision Department,  Mr. Ahmed Abdullahi, who attributed their support for the creative industry as a step in the right direction with potential for job creation, poverty reduction, and inclusive growth.

Herbert Wigwe, Managing director Access Bank, said the committee had also identified four key  areas under the creative sector to channel more funding at a single-digit interest rate.

The areas according to him include the movie, music, fashion, and information technology areas.

In his opinion, adopting the initiative was to use the sectors to make Nigeria a major tourist destination in the world.
