Barely two weeks after the inauguration of a 35-man executive of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State, South-South Nigeria, a parallel state executive of 36 members have emerged from a faction of the party.
Despite its October 16 Congress held in Asaba, the state capital, supervised by the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, where a former PDP chieftain, Omeni Sobotie, and 34 others were elected through unopposed voice votes, the Council of Leaders in the state has in a twist announced a 36-member parallel executive to run the affairs of the party.
A statement signed by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo-led Council of leaders said the 36-member parallel state executive include Silas Buowe as Chairman, Elvis Ayomanor as Deputy Chairman and Chidi Okonji as Secretary among others.
The statement while noting the move became imperative after several considerations of diverse interests within the party and wider consultation with other stakeholders, hinted that the new 36-member parallel state executive will work with the existing Local Government and Ward executives already in place.
The Council of Leaders also said it is unaware of a few leaders who refused to join the arrangement of the Council put together by the Congress and Extraordinary Conversation Planning Committee of the party, hence they resorted to being part of a one-man-business supposedly championed by the Deputy Senate President.
