The Nigerian government has set up a high powered team that has six ministers to address issues with Twitter over the ban on the micro-blogging site activities in Nigeria

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who will chair the team, announced this in a statement.

Other members of the committee which the Minister said has received presidential approval, are the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo.

The statement added that representatives of other relevant government agencies will be members.

Following the indefinite suspension of its operations in Nigeria, Twitter is said to have written to President Buhari seeking to engage with the Federal Government over the suspension, with a view to resolving the issue.

The micro-blogging site had deleted a tweet by the Nigerian leader that the government will deal with the youths in the eastern part of the country “in a language they will understand”.

Twitter had classified it as offensive and deleted the post.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives Joint Committee mandated to interface with the Federal Government and investigate the rationale behind the suspension of micro blogging site, Twitter has commenced sitting.

The committee’s sitting is coming 14 days after it was given a 10-day mandate to conclude its assignment.
