Rescuers have retrieved one body at the gold mine shaft in Bindura, Zimbabwe which caved in last week. An estimated 12 people have been stuck underground at the very least and at most 40 when the mine collapsed, sources close to the matter have disclosed.
The retrieved corpse was that of a male and was found very beneath a collapsed tunnel as confirmed by Christine Munyoro. Government officials informed that possibly because the mine was decommissioned, shut down some 10 years back and in this scenario was illegally re-entered by the miners.
One of the rescuers also suffered a similar fate whilst trying to rescue others as he was struck by a stone and drowned thereafter. It is still unclear the current state of the trapped miners.
Rescue operations have been suspended right after the unfortunate casualty.
