Benue judicial panel submits reports

The Benue State Judicial Panel of Inquiry into Cases of Police Brutality has recommended amongst others compensation of the sum of over 300 million Naira to be paid to victims of police abuses in the State.

The panel headed by Justice Adam Onum who submitted its report to the state government said a total of 72 cases were received while some were struck out.

It’s been about a year since the Benue State Government inaugurated its judicial panel of inquiry into police brutality headed by a former Chief Judge of the State, Justice Adam.

Recommendations reached, according to the panel, were based on the impact of the forces human rights abuses.

The Judicial Panel of Inquiry into Police Brutality particularly its Special Anti-Robbery Squad unit popularly known as SARS was inaugurated in October last year and given a 6-month time frame to submit its report.
