A week after resuming training, Bayern Munich players have decided to ease the club’s potential financial constraints by agreeing to forfeit 20% of their wages in order to ensure the constant payment of non-playing staff.
The decision was made in unison by every member of the squad as they all want to contribute to the fight against the global pandemic. In recent weeks, Robert Lewandowski and his wife made a donation of £1 million to German hospitals in their community.
Bayern’s German stars, Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka initiated a fund to raise money which will be given to charities and social institutions during this period. Both Goretzka and Kimmich have donated €500,000 of their own money to kickstart the fund.
Both players and clubs are doing their best to help aid the combat against the coronavirus in order to complete their on-going campaigns and get back to business as usual.
Presently, the top flight leagues look set to resume mid-may in order to end their seasons at the end of June. The Football Associations will continue to deliberate as to when the leagues should continue.
