The Nigerian Army has arrested two persons believed to be members of a militia controlled by Terwase Akwaza, a suspected mercenary who is also known as Gana.

According to a statement released today by Army Spokesman, Brigadier-General Texas Chukwu, the suspects were arrested by troops of the 72nd and 93rd Battalions on suspicion of being responsible for attacks on residents of Katsina-Ala in Benue State, and its environs.

The statement also encouraged residents to report suspicious activities in their areas to security agencies.

One locally made gun, one pistol, seven rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and nine rounds of 9mm ammunition were recovered from the suspects.

This follows previous reports that the Benue Government had increased the bounty placed on Gana, from 10 million naira to 50 million naira in February, after he was again declared wanted on suspicion of criminal activities including murder, kidnapping and other acts of banditry.

Gana who received amnesty after surrendering 84 assorted weapons in 2016, has constantly denied any wrongdoing and claims innocence of all accusations against him.
