Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, says the country has lost property worth 30 trillion Naira in the second quarter of 2021.

He, however, said the upgrade in the Federal Fire Service has saved property worth 15 trillion naira in the country within the said period.

The Minister disclosed the figures in Jalingo at a meeting with Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku where he commissioned an ultra-modern fire fighting truck.

He used the opportunity to caution the people against attacking firemen on emergency duty as those found guilty of such acts.

Governor Darius Ishaku said the upgrade in the county’s fire service is timely, as avoidable fire incidents have greatly affected economic growth, especially in the cases of market fires.

He promised to support the Taraba State Fire Service through the sponsorship of training programmes and the provision of equipment and commended President Muhammadu Buhari for reviving the once-moribund Federal Fire Service.

In March 2021, the Federal Government approved the sum of 10.4 billion Naira for an infrastructural upgrade of the Federal Fire Service to boost service delivery.
