Protesters, mostly youths and women, Saturday grounded socio-economic activities around the Biyogbolo axis of Isaac Boro and Melford Okillo Expressways in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

The people, who were protesting the death of a young man, Goodluck Oviekem, in police custody set up barricades around the area, forcing residents to trek long distances before getting to their destination.

The protesters want the authorities to investigate the circumstances leading to the death of the 22-year-old who was among several persons arrested in connection with an attack on a police patrol team and the rifle of an officer taken away.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Police Command in a statement issued by its spokesman, Asinim Buswat, alleged that the deceased was the mastermind of the attack and that the Commissioner of Police, Echeng Eworo, has ordered discreet investigation into the matter.
