Nigerian businesses in Ghana have again been locked up by the Ghanian authorities. The Nigerian business located in Tema, Ashiaman, and Oprah Square electrical dealers was locked up on Sunday by the Ghanian Union of Traders, GUTA.
Nigerians in Diaspora Organization, NIDO, Ghana Chapter Chairman, Calistus Elozieuwa, who disclosed this to reporters, said the shops were locked at night on Sunday making Nigerian traders resume to a locked up shop early Monday morning.
Elozieuwa hinted that the Ghanian authorities maintained that Nigerian traders are not allowed as retailers in their market according to the Ghanian Investment Promotion Center law, GIPC.
He noted that although the previous intervention by the Nigerian government was to reach a consensus with the Ghanian government to effect a change to the local law nothing of such was effected.
Meanwhile, Minister Education, Trade, and Investment on Desk at the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana, Adebola Arewa, while speaking with reporters claimed not to be aware of the recent business lockup but will, however, investigate the new development.
Arewa added that over 190 Nigerian shops in Ghana have been under lock since the previous intervention by the Nigerian government in 2019.
