Africans are largely responsible for Racist Treatment Overseas!

In light of the recent news of the inhumane treatment of some 700 African nationals who were meted the worst possible treatment in the United Arab Emirates and the corresponding response by the governments of the affected citizens, one need not wonder why inequality wil continue to thrive against persons of African Descent.

Several legal workers were harassed and sexually assaulted under the guise of deportation from the UAE, some which the victims’ report were very targeted and covertly done, yet the victims are left at the mercy of human rights advocates who have now advised them to take up the case with the International Labour Organization.

The UAE’s Interior Ministry released a statement on its website debunking all other sources of intelligence as misleading and that the raid was carried out as part of legal procedures to combat human trafficking, however, testimonies from the victims state otherwise.

One can only wonder how “transparently” and “legally standard” these operations could have been, considering the victims who had no access to phones, or basic amenities were shackled in chains were briskly disjointed from their day to day lives.

Most of the deportees attest to have been whisked away in the dead of the night from their abodes, tortured and not given access to legal counsel or relations during their holding for two months at the prison until their eventual deportation.

Now, while I have a problem with this lack of regard for human lives, African Lives; I have a bigger grouse with the lack of follow-up from the countries of the affected nationals and people like you (if this applies) who plans to or is still saving up for their next trip to Dubai? Why are you not concerned or angry enough to do something about it?

Where are the Ministers of Foreign Affairs when you need them? My guess is as good as yours!

Is Dubai the only tourist attraction in the world? for a country that has 90% of its inhabitants as foreigners, how clearer does it have to get for you to realize that your part of the funding for this ecosystem that oppresses and represses other mankind based on the colour of their skin should be cut off!

Nigeria alone accounts for the highest number of travellers to the Gulf nation, not to talk of other countries and the Emirates Airline has Nigeria to thank for being its third-largest market, so in essence, you’re sponsoring the livelihood of persons who have no regard for you or your kind, except of course when it comes to your pockets and if you wanted to bring up the guilty card argument, even prisoners are entitled to some dignity and should not be treated with such disregard.

With the precedent set, news like Indonesia violating the Vienna Convention, only to tender an apology later on after discovering the victim was a diplomat are precursors for worse treatments to follow.

So brace yourselves!
