Afghanistan Women can say Goodbye to 'Sportsmanship'

The Taliban has according to an official, Wasiq banned all women sporting activities in Afghanistan because “they might face a situation where their face and body will not be covered.

“I don’t think women will be allowed to play cricket because it is not necessary that women should play cricket,” Wasiq said. “In cricket, they might face a situation where their face and body will not be covered. Islam does not allow women to be seen like this.

“It is the media era, and there will be photos and videos, and then people watch it. Islam and the Islamic Emirate [Afghanistan] do not allow women to play cricket or play the kind of sports where they get exposed.”

The new Taliban government consisting of only males has drawn global attention following the exit of the U.S Special Forces that gave way for a government takeover like no other in recent times.
The EU has condemned the lack of inclusion in the new government, China, Germany, and Japan seem somewhat distant to the newly sworn-in administration cherrypicked from the Haqqani Network.

It is not all rosy as well for the Taliban who are now moving towards the civilian rule, a break away from the militancy they are used to. They have to manage bubbles of women protests in several cities across the country.
