Six women and nine children who were kidnapped in Nigeria a few months ago have managed to free themselves and escape from their captors. The 15 hostages were taken from farming towns in Borno's Chibok area in separate districts.

Dr. Kabir Adamu, MD of Beacon Consulting, says one of the major insecurity challenges in the country is the inability to manage our diversity. Some of the symptoms of our inability to manage our diversity, according to him include the perception and reality of marginalization which include lack of political, economic, and social inclusion, growing weakness of our state institution, almost absence of accountability in the government structure, and so much more.

He says there’s a lot of things citizens could do to help with the insecurity issues affecting the country but because we’ve been negatively mobilized, the ability for citizens to participate in security has been almost impossible and if the narrative is going to change, the negative mobilization has to stop and there should be a platform for the participation.

He also said its extremely true that our borders are relatively porous because there is no part of our borders that is not being exploited and its one of the reason we are where we are now, almost all the weapons in the country are coming illegally into the country through these borders and also lack of cooperation between the countries in the sub-region because of rivalry.
