The United Nations General Assembly holds its 75th anniversary despite the COVID-19 pandemic but with limited attendance.

This year, only one representative of its 193 UN Member will be allowed to attend physically and if already present within the US. Others will have to attend via videoconference.

At this year’s General Assembly, Philippine President, Rodrigo Duterte will deliver a speech, as the 12th speaker, in defence of some policies despite being at risk of losing tariff perks over human right violations.

Duterte, well known for detesting interference in local affairs will be addressing the UNGA for the first time ever.

This year’s Assembly will discuss matters bordering on nuclear weapon ban and the organizations’ commitment to multilateralism, the deepening economic spat between the United States and Iran.

Leaders from different nations will take turns in delivering addresses, however, the U.S President has refused to speak in typical Trump-like fashion
