The Kano State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, passed a Bill to establish three second class Emirates. Under the new legislation, the three new second class emirates will operate under the jurisdiction of the existing first class Kano Emirate.
This is coming about two months after the Assembly had repealed the Kano Emirates Law 2019 and re-enact Kano Emirate Law 2024, thereby dissolving four Emirates in the State reverting to the initial single Kano Emirate.
According to the new legislation, Rano Emirate will cover Rano, Bunkure, and Kibiya; Karaye Emirate will include the regions of Karaye and Rogo while the third, Gaya Emirate will encompass Gaya, Ajingi and Albasu.
Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Muhd Bello Butu-Butu, revealed that the establishment of the new emirates was aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency and promoting cultural representation across the state, in line with the historical antecedents of the state.
