Novak Djokovic claims a record-breaking 23rd men’s singles Grand Slam title by beating Casper Ruud 7-6 (7-1) 6-3 7-5 in the French Open final
The Serbian is now the only male player to have won each of the four Slams at least three times.
Djokovic’s victory over Ruud draws him level with Serena Williams and he could equal Margaret Court’s all-time singles mark at Wimbledon next month.
The historic victory means that Djokovic is now the men’s sole grand slam record holder, alongside countless other records.
After years of being blocked by Nadal, the greatest clay courter of all time, Djokovic will return as World No 1 for a record-extending 388th week as the best player in the world.
