Malawians prayed at a church in Blantyre on Sunday after deadly floods swept away entire villages, killing more than 400 people across the country and leaving some victims buried under mud.

A powerful storm pounded the southern African country as tropical Cyclone Freddy swept through the region killing in total more than 500 people in Malawi, Mozambique and Madagascar since it first made landfall in Africa in late February and circled back for a second time over the weekend.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) said it was providing food assistance to displaced people.
