Police have fired tear gas and sprayed water cannon to disperse protesting Sri Lankan university students in Colombo, on the second day of demonstrations.

The protesters were demonstrating against police having entered university premises without permission on Tuesday.

Student union leader, Hiruna Hettiarachchi said police had attacked students in the University of Colombo library who had not been protesting.
A police spokesperson acknowledged officers had entered university premises without authorities’ permission and issued an apology.
