As the federal government aims to transit from fossil fuel to green energy by the year 2060, groups have begun advocacy to ensure that oil impacted communities are not abandoned, but included in the National Energy Transition Plan.
The most recent group to re-echo this is the Youth and Environmental Advocacy Centre, YEAC, which is also calling on the multinationals and the federal government to clean up all oil impacted communities before the commencement of the policy.
In line with this, the group is also visiting oil producing communities in the Niger Delta; sensitizing them on the Just Energy Transition and the necessary steps to take so that their interests can be captured.
