Peru’s Juan Pablo Varillas ousted former world number three Dominic Thiem in the Argentina Open last 16 in the early hours of this morning in Buenos Aires.

Thiem, who has struggled to regain the form that saw him win the 2020 U.S. Open since returning from a string of injuries, went down 6-4 6-4.

Meanwhile, third-seeded Italian Lorenzo Musetti eased past Argentine Pedro Cachin 6-2 6-3, while Cachin’s countryman and fifth seed Francisco Cerundolo dispatched Spaniard Jaume Munar 6-2 6-1.

Spain’s Bernabe Zapata Miralles stunned home favorite and fourth seed Diego Schwartzman 6-1 6-3.
