Peruvian protesters headed for Lima to call for the resignation of President Dina Boluarte in demonstrations which continued in the capital on Monday (January 16).

In the southern city of Andahuaylas, protesters set off for Lima in a convoy of trucks on Sunday (January 15), while another caravan was left stranded in Ica as police blocked their passage on Monday.

Anti-government protests began in early December when former leftist president Pedro Castillo was removed from office and then detained after illegally trying to dissolve Congress.

Forty-two people, including one police officer, have died in violent clashes between demonstrators and security forces.
