With a late Rayan Ait-Nouri’s goal, Spaniard Lopetegui became the first Wolves manager to win his first top-flight match since 1978, lifting Wolves off the bottom of the standings.

“We have to enjoy our victory but we have not done anything yet,” Lopetegui said.

“We are happy but only for today.”

The World Cup break appears to have given Lopetegui, a former manager of Spain, Real Madrid, and Sevilla, valuable time to work with a team that only sent five players to Qatar and will be strengthened by the arrival of Brazil forward Matheus Cunha in January. Lopetegui arrived at Molineux in early November.

This marks the first away win of the campaign for the team struggling for survival after hiring a new manager just before the World Cup break.
