South African President Cyril Ramaphosa was re-elected as leader of the governing African National Congress (ANC), at a party conference in Johannesburg on Monday (December 19).
As the vote was announced by former South African President Kgalema Motlanthe, crowds in the room cheered loudly, in celebration.
Ramaphosa survived a challenge for the leadership of his party days after he was spared impeachment proceedings over a scandal dubbed “Farmgate.”
He has denied any wrongdoing and has not been charged with any crimes
