Video released on Friday showed protesters pushing open a barrier to gain access to a facility sealed off by authorities in Wuhan, the Chinese city believed to be the epicentre of the coronavirus pandemic.

the location from the buildings and road layout seen in the videos seemed to match file photography of the area, but the date on which the videos were filmed could not be immediately confirmefd.

Anger over the curbs has fuelled dozens of protests in more than 20 cities in recent days in a show of civil disobedience unprecedented in mainland China since President Xi Jinping took power in 2012. The government has scaled back on restrictions in recent days but protests have flared in some cities.
