Police and residents say gunmen have attacked a police checkpoint in Enugu State, killing three officers.
This is the latest violence in a region where separatist tensions often flare.
The state police spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe said the gunmen stormed the checkpoint at Agbani and opened fire on the officers.
Ndukwe said the dead were performing stop-and-search duty.
