Iran’s deputy representative to the UN has rejected the role of Western countries as “caretakers of Iranian women” during an address to the Security Council.
Touching on the death of Mahsa Amini, Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Zahra Ershadi, said Iranian women understand how to engage with the government in a peaceful and constructive manner.
Iran’s clerical rulers have faced the biggest protests in years since Mahsa Amini died last month in the custody of the morality police who enforce the Islamic Republic’s strict dress code.
