Three Nigerians have been extradited from the United Kingdom (UK) to the United States in relation to their alleged participation in a multimillion-dollar cyber-enabled business email compromise (BEC).

According to a statement on the website of the US Department of Justice, “the scams allegedly perpetrated by the defendants and their co-conspirators targeted unsuspecting victims including universities in North Carolina, Texas and Virginia, and attempted to cause more than $5 million in losses.”

BEC, also known as “cyber-enabled financial fraud,” is a sophisticated scam often targeting employees with access to company finances, businesses working with foreign suppliers and/or businesses that regularly perform wire transfer payments.
