The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has pledged to ensure a transparent and credible governorship election in Osun State come July 16th, 2022.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, while addressing a gathering at a stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo, the state capital, said that the commission has listened to stakeholders across the board, who emphasized transparency, inclusivity, and credibility of the election, as well as security and peaceful conduct of the exercise.
The Inspector of Police, Usman Alikali Baba, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi urged politicians, particularly those in the race to play by the rule of the game, and also warned youths to shun the politics of thuggery, capable of disrupting the peaceful atmosphere in the State.
The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has issued a strong warning to anyone who plans to disrupt the Osun State governorship election scheduled for July the 16th.
According to him, the Police will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone found wanting throughout the period of the exercise to be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Baba at the stakeholders’ meeting organized by the electoral umpire in Osogbo, the state capital, also said 21,000 security personnel have been deployed for the governorship election.
