Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, has requested more areas of partnership with the Northeast Development Commission, NEDC, including rehabilitation of strategic roads in the state.

The Governor was speaking when he received officials of the commission in Taraba State, for the flag-off of the construction of housing units and distribution of food and non-food items.

The NEDC was set up by Nigeria’s Federal Government to address the trauma caused by the over 10 years of insurgency and other security issues in the various sectors in the Northeast states.

Though Taraba was not directly affected by the insurgency, it has witnessed an influx of thousands of Internally Displaced Persons, fleeing from the other Northeast states and the Northwest.

The officials of the NEDC were in Taraba to flag off the distribution of agricultural inputs, food and non-food items, and also for the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of 500 housing units for IDPs in the state.

Governor Ishaku appreciated the Commission for aiding his government’s efforts to address the sufferings of persons affected by insecurity in the state and requested the rehabilitation of strategic roads to be included in the commission’s areas of intervention.

Governor Ishaku added that the agricultural inputs donated by the commission will boost the state’s competitive advantage in rice farming, sesame seed, cocoa, and other cash crops.
