Police in Katsina State say they have succeeded in arresting 37-year-old Abdulkareem Muhammed, with 32 litres of petrol in three polythene bags, concealed in a travelling bag.

The spokesman of the Command, Superintendent Gambo Isah, while parading the suspect before reporters at the Command Headquarters, said he was arrested along the Katsina-Jibiya road by officers on patrol.

From afar, the suspect seems to be travelling with clothes and wears filled in the travelling bag he was carrying, but a closer peep into the bag reveals otherwise, with three polythene bags containing 32 litres of petrol.

The feat, according to the spokesman, is in the continuation of the enforcement of the security challenges containment order, banning sales of petrol in Jerry cans and polythene bags.

He noted that more suspects who took the routes of Katsina-Jibiya road to smuggle petrol to bandits in the forests have been arrested and are being charged to court.

The suspect, however, denied that the products were meant for bandits, rather, he was taking them for resale in his village.

He further pleaded for mercy and promised to stop if let off the hook.

Another arrest according to Isah, is that of a 39-year-old Ahmed Abdulmumin alleged to be cyberstalking and bullying Governor Aminu Masari’s aide, Ibrahim Umar, over a misunderstanding they had.

Isah said the complainant noticed the bully while going through his Facebook page on his 55th birthday anniversary.

Rather than best wishes, he saw insults that made him report the matter to the police.

The suspect said the act was a result of a misunderstanding they had some time in 2018, but claimed ignorance of the law on cybercrime and pleaded with the police to temper justice with mercy, asking the complainant to forgive him.

The police image maker further said the investigation is ongoing into the matter.
