Human rights watchdog, Amnesty International, has insisted that at least 12 people were killed in the heat of last year’s #EndSARS protests in Lekki Toll Gate and at the State Secretariat in Alausa.

The group called on the Nigerian government to thoroughly investigate allegations of how state-sponsored thugs were unleashed on peaceful #EndSARS protesters.

Amnesty International made the call at an event in Abuja to mark the one year anniversary of the #EndSARS protest.

The group is, however, disappointed that one year after the brutal crackdown of the protest to end rogue policing and bad leadership, the Nigerian government has failed to bring to justice the killers of #EndSARS protesters.

Despite claims by Nigerian authorities that no life was lost at the Lekki-Toll Gate, the epicentre of the #EndSARS protest in 2020, Amnesty International insisted that no fewer than 12 persons were killed in Lagos.

The group said what the government has managed to do with the panels it set up was to silence the people and ensure that justice is not only delayed but denied.

EndSAR protest which began on the social media space was aimed at ending police brutality.

The protest soon assumed a more potent dimension with protesters calling for an end to bad governance and regime change.

The epicentre was at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos on the 20th of October where Amnesty International insisted that Nigerian security agents fired live ammunition at harmless protesters who dared to confront it for change.

Amnesty International said one year after peaceful endears protests that ended in a brutal crackdown by security agents especially in Lagos and Abuja, it is yet to justice for the victims of police brutality.

An investigation by the organization alleged that the Nigerian Army and the police killed 12 people on October 20 in Lekki Toll Gate and Alausa when pro-government supporters instigated violence during the peaceful demonstration last year.

Amnesty International asked the government to ensure the right things are done to bring justice.

The anti-corruption watch group alleged that the government has only succeeded in silencing the voice of victims of #EndSARS protests as panels fail to provide justice for them.
