Law enforcement in Pennysylvania is unable to get over the reality that a woman passenger got raped in a public train in the midst of several passengers who witnessed the attack without raising an alarm.
The woman was reportedly attacked at 11:00 PM at night while riding the SEPTA heading towards Upper Darby. The report was finally logged by a SEPTA staff who called 911. She is currently receiving medical care following the assault.
The culprit, Fiston Ngoy, a 35-year-old is currently in police custody unable to make bail. The surveillance camera in the train captured the entire incident provided sufficient evidence to incriminate him.
The Darby Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt disclosed his disbelief that the video also showed how none of the other passengers tried to help the woman during the attack. There are current plans to interview possible witnesses.
“The rape that occurred on SEPTA’s Market-Frankford Line Wednesday night (Oct. 13) was a horrendous criminal act,” Busch said. “There were other people on the train who witnessed this horrific act, and it may have been stopped sooner if a rider called 911.”
