Members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, have called on the Federal and State Governments to increase the welfare packages accrued to pensioners across the country to enable them to live decent lives.
The National Vice President of the Union, Southwest, Ayo Kumapayi, made the appeal during the swearing-in ceremony of the state executives of the union in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
Kumapayi and the Osun State Chairman of the Union, Olasunkanmi Salawu, said the government at this critical stage, must take the welfare of pensioners as a priority in policy formulation because of the contribution of members to national development.
The Osun State chapter also called on the state government to increase the monthly payment of pension arrears, to enable most members to access quality health.
