Nigeria’s House of Representatives was devoid of its usual busy activities on Wednesday with most members absent from plenary at the commencement of debate on the 2022 Budget.

It was all commendation for President Muhammadu Buhari by members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the House of Representatives for his timely presentation of the 2022 Budget.

Leading the debate in a scanty plenary with less than 40 members, House Leader, Ado Doguwa, called on his colleagues to ensure quick passage of the Appropriation; a position that was shared by most members of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

For members of the opposition, the administration must make efforts to reduce the rising debt level, make adequate use of borrowings through investment in critical infrastructure.

The point of convergence for members was the need for thorough oversight of Ministries, Departments and Agencies to ensure implementation of budget allocations to critical projects.

The budget debate continues on Thursday before transmission to committees for further legislative work.
