Controversies have continued to trail the merciless flogging of some students of Madrasah Misbaudeen Al-Islamiy Arabic School in Ganmo Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State who were alleged to have attended a birthday party at a bar.
During a visit to the Madrasah Misbaudeen Al-Islamiy Arabic School in Ganmo community to have a piece of firsthand information on the viral video showing how the Arabic students were flogged, the school management declined to speak to reporters citing the government order as the reason.
Further investigations led them to one of the parents of the affected students who is also a trader in the popular Ganmo community market, Bashirat Olanrewaju, who spoke in the local Yoruba language.
She described the development as unfortunate but maintained that the students including her daughter who is also involved deserve to be treated in that manner to instil discipline in them.
Reacting on behalf of the state government, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Rafiu Ajakaye, maintained that despite the fact that both the students and their parents accepted that the student’s behaviour was bad, such corporal punishment is unacceptable and that the development is under control.
It is hoped that parents will henceforth adopt better and more civil methods of correcting their children than this primitive method in most Arabic schools to avoid turning these children into terrors in society.
