At a ceremony attended by Chinese Ambassador Li Lianhe and Algerian Prime Minister, Ayman Benabderrahmane stated in his opening remarks that a collaboration between Sinovac Biotech of China and Saidal of Algeria to create COVID-19 vaccines is likely to create a path for the manufacturing of other vaccines soon.
Read the statement in part:
“Plans have been put in place for the production line to produce 6 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine by the end of this year, and 96 million doses annually if there is sufficient raw material and orders domestically and globally.”
The Chinese envoy welcomed the project’s completion as a turning moment in the history of collaboration between China and Algeria, which have a long history of friendship and have many common interests.
As they have traded support for each other throughout the years, Li observed that the two countries’ development aspirations are similar. China has conquered massive local demand for Sinovac vaccines and made unrelenting efforts to offer them to the North African country, he added, citing the signing of a contract for 15 million doses of vaccines, making China Algeria’s top vaccine supplier.
The Chinese envoy stated that China is always willing to continue enhancing collaboration with Algeria in a range of fields and to expand high-quality partnerships within the Belt and Road Initiative. Algeria and China have been working together to combat the COVID-19 epidemic since the outbreak.
Algeria was one of the first countries to send medical gifts to China in February 2020, and China has, in turn, sent multiple batches of medical goods and expertise to Algeria
